You are so right. My grandparents left enough food to feed an army - a room full of canned goods, two freezers full of meat (including the world's best sausage) and bushels of potatoes under the pourch. As a kid, it was not unusual to come home from a trip to town and find a basket of tomatoes or green beans in the front room (the doors were never locked).
