I have a 2002 F150 Supercrew with cassette and 6 disc changer. I would like to update to touchscreen. I read many posts about all the modifications needed to mount a double DIN in dash. I don't want to hack up my dash to get a double din in.
I would guess the difficulty in getting a double din to fit is the screen size and the depth. I saw this below from this site.
Being double din I would assume the screen size is the same, but this seems much less deep due to no CD or cassette. I would not necessarily buy from these guys, but it does give me ideas that may make the install easier. Would this make an install easier? Are there other devices like this readily available in the US?
I installed a double DIN Pioneer in my '01. A lot of modification, but not hard to do. That looks like it would work, but not sure how it mounts. I bought a Metra mounting kit that fit right in. The best part is the Bluetooth and $20 back up camera that I added.
Thanks for the reply. I am one who really hates the idea of permanently modifying anything on my truck. If I could remove a part and put it back at some later date it would be OK, but cutting etc I try not to do. I sure wish there was some sort of plug and play.
I contacted Crutchfield and pretty much the same response. Modification.
As I watch more videos on it I am not as concerned as I once was. I just don't want to ruin the dash. Is the issue both the opening size AND the depth?
I feel certain it would go in there, but not really the look I was going for. I was going to use that as a fall back position if I simply could not get the double dine to work.

If you really want the double din, and you're going to keep the truck for a while, just do the dash mods and put it in. It will be totally worth it in the end, and will only help the value, not hinder it. That's my two cents.
I replaced the deck in my 1999 F-150, but I went with the adapter with the shelf built in and the single din deck. Put a Kenwood with Bluetooth. Best investment ever. Also replaced the speakers with Scosche dual-cone composite speakers. Made a HUGE sound quality difference!
I have not looked at aftermarket head units in a couple decades. Seriously. I have been reading about Android Auto and Android head units. Are these the same thing or different?

I just Googled Android Car Stereos. Didn't see any of the mainstream brands. The only thing that would make me nervous, is:
1/ No car stereo proven brands (that I can see).
2/ Premature obsolescence if the software or hardware becomes discontinued/unsupported.
