I don't know if the pic is correct or not we need a exploded view from the 48-52 ford parts catalog but that is the way I installed my mounts
I've had the most luck mounting the arm on the frame first, then forcing it up into the cab. I put something under the cab to protect the frame until the arm is in place and ready for the bolt. While mine is a '53, the rear mount is almost identical.
Your are correct, the diagram shown is for the 53-56. Here is the diagram for the earlier trucks:
The fronts I don't know, the rears should absolutely squeeze the bracket against the bushing. So for the tears I would torque to grade 5 bolt 1/2 diameter.
