How many miles?
Hello,
I'm looking to buy a 6.9 or 7.3 IDI to pull a trailer and do general work truck stuff. I have seen these trucks into the 200K+ range and wonder at what point the motor/injector pump/tranny is expected to go.

Its just like buying any used vehicle it is a little bit of a gamble.
It all depends how the person before you took care of it or how you take care of it or how well it was built I've these seen the motors with 500,000 + and some that have died at just over a 100,000 (cavitation problems). They will last a long time just check the dca levels in the radiator and have a mehanic come along to look at the truck that way you have a better idea of what you are getting.Also automatics(E4OD) rebuild around 2 grand and manuals expect to pay 900 for clutch replacement in parts. doing head gaskets at a shop may take 1100 to 1800 out of your pocket so check to see if (while running) there is a lot of air bubbles in the radator neck and check the oil it should be black and is hard to tell if the there is antifreeze in there with out sending in an oil sample to a lab. How long injector pump last is determinded the lubcation propertys of the fuel. good luck shopping.
