Tranny question
My moms boyfriend has a 90 F-150 w/ a 4.9 and 4 speed manual with over drive. What transmission is this? OR you can help me with the problem. In 1st, 2nd, and 4th, it sounds like something is going seriously wrong in the transmission. It grinds going into 3rd, but once in there, its smooth as can be. any thoughts?

Ok, so its an 88. I checked the tranny spotters quide, but it only lists autos, so could someone please tell me what tranny it is? I want to think that it is a SROD, but I am not sure.

Lousy transmission
Probably a Mazda M50d. I have one in my '89 F150. It's a piece of junk - made out of Plasticine. Mine is going in for a rebuild tommorrow. I hate this transmission. I don't know why Ford would put such a lousy tranny in their trucks.

If you hate the M5OD then read my post in this forum titled "I Did It, the ZF has landed". Corny I know, but I was really happy and inebriated when I wrote it! Check it out and say good-bye to the M5OD forever. The ZF is built FORD tough (in Germany).
