Newby Question
i was told that my '00 F250 PSD has an allison tranny so that i could essentially run a 38" tire on stock 3.73's without re-gearing?? is that the limit? i was thinking about doing maybe 10-12 in front and 8 in rear for some 40's......but not if i would have to regear. what is the tallest tire acceptable for 4.10 gears too?
sorry for all the Q's but im a 1st time blue oval and off to a slow start

You can run 3.73's with 38" tires (especially the swamper radials, as they are only 37.2" tall)
If you are going to run a 40, I would recommend that you get 4.56 (if diesel) or 4.88 (with a gasser).
It's not likely that you're going to burn up the rear end, but the trans would be my primary concern (lot of torque converter action...heat).
Step 1. Get some gauges (trans temp at a minimum)
Step 2. lift it, then change the gears.
step 3. Add some power (in the manner of your choice)
Step 4. Drive it til the wheels fall off.

TOPFLOR, i run 38's with 3.73's with no problem. With the torque of the powerstroke this match doesn't feel bad at all. The 40's and 4.10's would work fine.
Not to mention.. i'm getting 14.4- 14.3 mpg city with this match. not bad, not bad at all. (the chip helps.. a lot)
