16.5 wheel

I am currently working on trying to find a matching 16.5 rim. Not sure what it came off of but i currently have it on a 1996 f250. The genius before me had 16.5 on the front when i bought it. i was able to find tires pretty decently priced so i decided to stay with the 16.5.........well one of the rims apparently does not fit over the brake hub properly. I am trying to find out what width the good rim is but can not measure it at this time. the only thing on the rim in ways of markings are "79 8 9 91970 l x 2780" The wheel is definitely 16.5" 8 lug 6.5... i am just trying to find the width or what this would of come off of so i can order something to replace the ****ty one. If all else fails i might just order the stock 16 rims and beg the tire place to buy back the 16.5's

Does anyone have any information as to where to find more information. I believe this to be from a mid 80s F series.

I looked it up, apparently you could get a 16.5x6 rim and a 16.5x 6 3/4 width rim. I looked up a 1980 f350 and plugged in wheel. I chose the 16.5x6 rim. None came up in Wyoming, but I did a area search and these hits came up.

If you have 4 new tires and need a wheel why not buy 4 new wheels that fit the truck to mount the new tires on?

Where can he buy new 16.5 inch rims? I checked Summit racing, they apparently don't sell them. I didn't look very hard, but I didn't see any on wheel vintiques either.

P.S. I went to Summit racing and they did not have a 16.5 in the search menu on the left of the page. But I did a google search and google went in and found Summit does sell 16.5 inch rims.

I'm not sure if anyone sells new 16.5, maybe in a white spoke. I did buy 4 wider ones new a couple decades back and there was a protrusion in the center part of the rim facing inside that hit the caliper and had to be ground off. I think I would be trying to match the 2 16s you have. The 80s-90s 16 inch wheels are easy to find. Not split rims. If you haven't driven the 16.5 tires, they should trade them out for 235x65x16, you might have to take a little hit.

16.5" Rims are readily available in either steel or AL, they are still used lots by the off road crowd.

Maybe one of the rear wheels would fit over the caliper.

Maybe you could post a link to a place to buy new ones for the OP. I can't speak for him but it would be nice to have oem style with hubcap bumps, I'd think

Like I said they are readily available Not only do the off road guys still use em but so do trailers.

Dexstar rims are made in the US they are not offshore Chinese rims of questionable quality.

16.5 Tires are hard to find. Why not move to 16 or 17?

To me, the worst part of running 16.5 is if they ever go down, they come off the rim and are very difficult to get aired back up. At minimum you will need to jack the vehicle up and very likely have to take it to a tire shop. I'd just get ride of them now.

Good point. This along with almost no tire shops have tires-what do you do with a blow out, wait for a mail order tire to arrive?
