I've pulled the cab from my 78 F250 and I'm trying to get it off the frame. I've removed the doors, seat, gearshift, etc... it's completely loose and kinda gutted.
Is it ok to just slide it off the side of the frame and roll it onto its side on the ground?

Don't know if it's okay. Maybe if you lay some sort of padding, or do it very gently. It's going to be a pain to get it back up the way it should be though.
I used an engine hoist and straps to lift my front clip and old cab off, and then again to lift the new cab on and put the front clip back on.
I simply hooked the straps in the rear cab-mount bolt holes, and then through the steering column hole and AC hole to the front cab mounts. It works pretty well, and I only had a 1 ton hoist.
My old cab was heater only, and I didn't want to run the strap through the blower motor hole, as it wanted to chafe the strap, so I ran the straps out the windshield and down the cowl and firewall, to the front cab mount 'boxes.'
Never miss an opportunity to boast, and is there anything milk crates aren't great for!
1) I'm definitely keeping the cab. Just need to replace the cab mounts and floor pans.
2) It still has glass in it, but I'll probably remove the rear window.
3) The planks look like a good idea! Reps!
4) I have a hoist, but the front wheels on the leg extension don't pivot and it is a PITA to move that thing around. I have to yank it in the drive way to get it to move and it's just kind of balanced on the hoist. Using straps to lift from the floor also looks like a good idea. Gonna try that today!
Can't say enough about this forum. Wish I could rep you guys as often as you earn it.
