This is “Betty” She’s a farm truck and a work truck that’s spent some time in Oceola, MO, Knoxville and Eagle Grove, IA. I have the pleasure to drive her often! In 2017 she had some major work that was carefully done to preserve and continue her long life. A remanufactured 223 CID Mileage Maker I6 was transplanted under the hood and mated to a Borg Warner Ford 3 speed Overdrive transmission. All functional improvements while honoring this old gals vintage functionality. She’ll run down the road and will do 65 MPH or better all day.
She also has new front and tail light lenses, a new headliner, new door seals, new wheel cylinders, new fuel pump, rebuilt carb, new fan belt, new window cranks, new wiper motor, switch and wiper blades, New fuel sending unit, new overdrive cable and OD kickdown switch, new rubber mat and seat cover and a new search light.
There’s old paint, primer, old lettering in places, surface rust, scratches and few holes but it all just makes the truck look perfect. 95% of the body remains solid but rust has worked it’s way through in the lower rear portion of the front fenders, A problem spot for F-100’s based on the patch panels I see for sale. There is also an area on the bottom edge of the tailgate. The bed is heavily pitted with some small holes. All the floors are solid and rust free. All the lights, signals, wipers, heater and gauges work. The original radio lights up and crackles with static but has yet to be able to find a station.
She’s a sweet old classic truck and you just can’t duplicate what the years and miles have left us with. It would be a sin to restore this Heartland original and erase the aging that's is a huge element of the truck's appeal.
