Finally after a year of searching...I may have found my '57 Frig

New poster, soon to be owner, long time watcher.

It's been a long time looking but i may have found my '57 Frig... was hoping for short bed but this one is the right price and is very clean.... but its a long bed. Don't suppose it is ever as easy as lopping off the end of the frame to convert to short... would have prefered stepside as well... I am assuming that all long beds were also all long wheel base trucks or is that one of those assumptions that should not be ?

Congrats! Glad you found it! Good luck with it.

I think we have been exchanging a few emails.

Even a long bed is fairly short truck overall with a wheelbase just a couple inches longer than later shortbeds. This is one model of truck that the short ones aren't that much better looking than a long, IMO.
I've had my eye on a good short wide bed junk trailer for a few years. I think I could just trade for a different pickup box trailer. But all my fleet are longbeds right now.
We need pictures

Well, i think I've found the one.... I still have to travel to get it (700 miles each way) and it is in parts (engine, tranny, misc parts all loose). Not even sure if the hood is attached. Transport co's are a rip... at over 700$ plus they do not want to take the engine, tranny or any loose parts...

Great price but might be a bit of a pain to go get... wish it was 250 miles or less. Big decision in next 24 hrs...

About 8" i believe... so hopefully it wont be so bad. Plan on a slightly taller stance... not quite 4x4 stance but a bit taller than stock... should take up extra length of bed... too bad the wheel bases were not the same... that would make for an easy fix/conversion to stepside...

Hi Jeff, yup. Well i havent' picked it up yet.. still have to drive 700+ each direction and it is in parts.. i.e. Engine, tranny, other stuff.. transport co's don't want to ship truck and engine separately... plus they;re over $700 just to ship non op truck w/o engine and other parts... so big decision in next 24hrs..

That's pretty clean, and looks all original! I can see a pair of original keys as well; jealous!

Very clean. The steering wheel looks perfect, which if mine is any indication of the typical, is rare. And if its in Oregon, get up there before the real rain starts!

It is a very nice truck. If I was buying it, the fast and a little sloppy paint job would concern me what it has under it.

Understood there WilloB... but for a daily driver for a 15 yr old to drive to and from high school, a beater would have been just fine too... LOL. Fortunately, I have the before, during and after photos.... so for what our immediate intentions are, it'll be good nuff... someday I may strip it down to bare metal and do a complete frame off restor.... when he's done with HS or the truck... whichever is first...

Before body work/paint

Looks like a solid truck but why did they paint that chrome grill? Did they give you the emblems or just bondo the holes shut?
If I was a kid I would drive the wheels off that. Heck even as an old fart I'd drive the wheels off it.

I believe he has all the emblems on the truck. He did paint he 'custom cab' on doors though. not sure why they painted those or the grille... can always have it rechromed or get another... but hell.. we're just gonna drive the hell out of her... will be installing 289 and a C4

Bumper is just setting on there.. not installed... LOL
