My nephew has a 93 F150 with 2 tanks. both pumps (1 each tank) were replaced in the past year, and new fuel filter. yet he still has fuel starving issues. it cranks, will run for 10-20 secs then dead. I am wondering has anyone gone to a electric fuel transfer valve and 2 high pressure pumps ( 1 for each tank)? FYI: pumps sound like they power up when the key is on. once truck is started I caint hear them no more due to "other" truck noises.
thanks
Fert
I think the next step will be to remove the pumps again. he paid someone to replace the pumps and level sensors in each tank. yet I dont beleieve they replaced the pumps. the mid tank dont want to run with the key on now. I am doing this mostly over the phone till I can get to him to trailer it back next month. then I will have a much better idea.
is there 2 pumps or 3 pumps? my understanding was the pump in the tank was a low pressure and there was a another mechanical pump at the motor like days of old..... yes I am telling my age....

EFI uses only electric pumps. No mechanical pump.
Pre 90 used a high pressure pump located on the frame rail and low pressure lift pumps in the tank. 90 and later uses a high pressure pump in the tank. Fuel tank switching is accomplished with what is called the multi function reservoir and it is activated by fuel pressure from the tank. Tank switch only turns on the power to the selected tank. No electric valves here.
well more complicated then an old mechanical pump, but lots of great info. thanks for all the info. just decided to relieve him of his problem. going to be buying his truck, both actually for $2400 then get it fixed right.
due to totaling the wifeys car 2 days ago. give 1 truck to the kid, then his car to her.
just a few scratches and a bruises.... every air bag deployed for the driver side, I was the only 1 in that ride.
That's a new way to solve a fuel pump issue. I don't think that will buff out. Glad you weren't hurt.

no I don't think it will. I am just happy neither of us was hurt or killed. after that its just steel and glass to sweep up. but that little Focus took a beating and I opened the door and got out a little dazed but ok
Just want to say I'm working on my 87 F250 today and read this thread because one of my fuel tanks are feeding - but not registering on the gauge (which I'm not super fussed about).
Far and wide in the internet world - I don't think there's a forum like this one.
Incredible detail coming from clearly experience / qualified members. Glad I found it and thanks to guys like SubFord and Notenoughtrucks.
