voltage regulator

94 Ranger 4.0 i've changed the voltage regulator out 2 times this week, my gauge is reading to the top of the normal mark, checked voltage with meter it's showing 14 volts. can anyone help

14 volts is good. 12.6 or less means that you are not charging. Does it stay below around 14.6 even at a cruise speed?

I sorry i didn't make my self clear my gauge in the truck is reading high close to 18 volts and my hand held volt meter is showing 14 volts do you think my gauge has gone bad because when I turn the a/c on it drops back in the high normal range and i've not smelled the battery yet

No, you were clear. I would make sure that your test meter is accurate then your truck voltmeter is reading high for some reason. Is it factory or aftermarket?
