what diameter straight pipe should I put on my 2001 7.3 to free up the turbo??? And also where can I find another turbo fan to build boost quicker.
if you want cheap ~$50, 3.5" pipe will delete the muffler. If you want better and have the budget for it, a full replacement turbo back 4" will let it breathe better. 5" has no performance benefit over 4" unless you're really crazy with hp mods. mbrp is a popular choice.
If not planning to go crazy with hp mods, would a 4" straight pipe free everything up?
Before you spend a lot of money, you may want to cut out a few inches of pipe Before the muffler. Leave a few inch stub coming off the muffler in case you want to return to normal.
It will be noisy but you can see if you pick up any power. I went 4 inch Turbo Back and noticed no performance improvement.
I say go with 4 inch. That's what I have on my truck, and it sounds really good. I passed a 7.3 with the stock exhaust system with no muffler or cat. At 70mph, it really didn't sound good to me. All I heard was that fluttery sound that 7.3s have. At 70mph, mine with the 4 inch system does have some of that fluttery sound, but it also has a much deeper tone to it with a little whistle. The 4 inch system does drone a bit, but not unbearable for me.

I agree with Jo 4" sounds better if you have the budget for it. I went the cheaper route and did the muffler delete until I was ready for a full system - my truck has dictated my expenses with other such priorities for now. To give you an idea of what the muffler delete sounds like to help in your decision, here's a video...
I will warn you it sounds good like in the video wide open, but going by a guard rail or passing a vehicle in the left lane with the windows down, it does sound kind of fart-can like. I did it to lower my EGTs, not so much sound but the turbo whistle is appealing IMO.
