I recently bought a 64 f100 and there is a power steering resivvor bolted to the fire wall with the lines cut. Didn't think Ford put power steering on until 65. VIN tells me this truck was born Jan 65. Any ideas?
Power steering wasn't available 'till '66. Pictures might help to identify what you've got.
If the vin shows Jan '65, it can't be a '64.
Post the warantee tag and we can be sure

VIN tells me this truck was born Jan 65. Impossible!
A truck 'born' January '65 would be a 1965, not a 1964. 1964 production ended during the first two weeks of August 1964, 1965 production began during the last two weeks of August 1964.
Historically, most new vehicles are introduced in September of the previous year. So, 1965 FoMoCo cars/trucks (except Mustangs) were introduced September 1964.
The 3 engines used in 1964 F100/250's (223/262 I-6's and 292) were replaced in 1965 F100/350's with 3 new engines (240/300 I-6's and 352). The 262 I-6 was not available in F350's.
The differences are easy to spot. 223/262: The intake/exhaust manifolds are on the left (drivers) side of the engine. The 240/300 intake/exhaust manifolds are on the right (passenger) side of the engine.
292 has the dizzy behind the carb, 352 has the dizzy in front of the carb.
No dealer or factory installed P/S was available in 1965. You were stuck with "armstrong" P/S until 1966 when P/S was available again, but only in F100/250 2WD's initially.
If that's truly a P/S reservoir mounted on the firewall, the P/S pump was an Eaton.
Usually, the Eatons reservoir bolted to the top of the pump, but on some cars with A/C, it was remotely mounted on the left fender inner apron.
The Eaton P/S pump was used on misc. 1953/64 Passenger Cars, 1965 Mustang's w/a generator, with dealer installed P/S on 1958/64 F100/250 2WD's
No VIN shows a production date. 1961/80: The last 6 digits of the VIN is the Numerical Sequence of Assembly, the trucks specific serial number that decodes to the year.
My former 1965 F100 VIN: F10DR639898:
F10 = F100 2WD; D = 352 2V; R = San Jose CA Assembly Plant; 639898 = 1965, assembled January 1965.
Why would I have memorized the VIN of a truck I no longer owned? Because, I bought it new March 1965, sold it November 2009.
When one owns a vehicle for 44 years, but cannot recall the VIN .. IMO, their memory is fading away.
1964 F100 2WD, 292 2V assembled in Kansas City MO .. Original selling dealer ordered it from the OKC Ford District Sales Office that I drove past lastFriday.
When the OKC assembly plant closed, Fred Jones...a long time OK FoMoCo dealer bought it because he was also FoMoCo's authorized parts rebuilder.
He needed more space and while this plant had been closed because it was now too small to assemble vehicles, it was HUGE for rebuilding parts.
After Jones died, the plant was abandoned...sat there empty. But now it's been converted into a luxury hotel, strange...considering where it located.
Rooms: $169.00-$469.00 a night.
IMO waaay too much money to pay for a hotel room in an area with run down and abandoned buildings, homeless people walking around begging, sleeping on the sidewalks, in weed choked lots and on bus benches.
Bill, how was the get together? Looked like a good group of people on the list.

The meet was fine, the weather was not, as it was hot and muggy.
Rented a 2017 F150 XLT Stupor Crew in OKC, then drove it 2,300+ miles over 14 days thru a gazillion small towns in OK and bits of KS & TX while stopping at 23 Ford dealers looking for "goodies."
Excepting the day that Don and I drove around, stopping at a few WA Ford dealers looking for goodies, the last time I did this jazz, Reagan was prez.
