Hi All, Just finished my first trip in the 93F350, with a 95 7.3 PSD. zf5 4x4. I knew heading into the 1000 mile round trip that the clutch was iffy, but it held out just fine. A bit tough getting into reverse sometimes, Just had to make sure the clutch peddle was all the way down.
I had to go pick up a old stock trailer I bought so it was a good test.
The only other issue other then the clutch was the steering. Very sloppy, and almost like a dead spot when turning the wheel from right to left and back. A bit iffy when towing a trailer, but just had to keep my mind on the road. Befor the trip I did check out the front end, uppers and lowers, rod ends etc and all looked good.
It has been a few years since I drove this vintage of truck on a trip and I was quickly reminder of the noise level in the cab, Thankfull of the stereo system to help drown it out once and a while.
Anyway, my ?? is...Whats involved in rebuilding the steering box, or should I just get a reman one?? Thanks
I do not know about rebuilding a gear box. Some here will say get a red head steering box. From what I have read they are good but 2x the price of a napa rebuilt box. I put a napa rebuilt one one my truck about 3 yr ago and have not had an issue with it. It also carries life time warranty.
