My 1995 bronco has been acting up lately, I've replaced most of the common sensors and checked many things, the codes given have been gone through but they won't go away and no other codes are present. My truck will die sometimes when stopped in gear or it will try to die when stopped in gear and it blows black smoke. I've had shops look at it and they haven't done much to help.
When I try to set the base timing it barely want to run when it's set at 10 degrees (where it should be). Could this mean the distributor itself could be bad?
It's also hard shifting so I'm going to replace the solenoid pack and do the fluid because it smells burnt.
Sometimes while driving it will have very little power and after 30 seconds to a minute it will "click" (feels almost like a downshift) and then run perfect with good power.
Not sure where to go from here, I've been doing some research about random nonsense and I've checked, gone through or replaced most of the normal issues. Tps, IAC, oxygen sensor, maf, egr, evr, egr solenoid, fuel filter, ICM, cleaned the throttle body, gone through some wiring and minorly checked for vacuum leaks. I'm losing hope, HELP
I've sort of narrowed this down to three things but still not positive. Through my research and knowledge I think it could be the distributor pickup not functioning, the ecm could be failing, and/or the fuel pressure regulator is shot. It's possible that all three are shot but I'd like to get some opinions. I'd like to get this fixed ASAP
A simple check of the fuel pressure regulator is to remove the vacuum line on it and see if there is gas in it. If so, the regulator is shot; the diaphragm is leaking fuel into the intake manifold.
The next easier thing to test would be the distributor pickup, and you would have to replace that to test.
EEC is only showing me a maf sensor fault and an egr closed circuit voltage high. I've replaced and gone through both of these systems and the CEL won't go away after cleared. Not sure if this means that the ECU is shot or what. Neither garage the truck has gone too has said anything about this.
