Hey guys I have a 4.9 f150, I know this probably has been beaten to death but I have a little problem , I deleted my EGR a few months back with positive effects on the way the motor runs, so now I went for the smog pump removal, but after starting the truck I have a CEL. Is there some I did wrong , I plugged all lines what is making the light come on? I also have a heavy smell of gas I'm thinking that's coming from the charcoal can I deleted. please help.
The easiest thing to do with the smog is just bypass the belt. I dunno if you can do that with the 300 though. In my experience usually deleting the EGR sets the CEL on not the smog pump.
I can understand deleting the smog system and even the EGR, but the charcoal can collects fuel vapors from the tank so they can be put to use. Without this the tank isn't vented properly which may cause other problems and any vapors that do escape are wasted.. you are essentially throwing away a portion of every tank of fuel. Doesn't make any sense.
the air pump has like zero drag on the motor and it aids combustion in the cat which is also not a restriction on the motor and does help at least the planet in the long run.
but egr delete? maybe on a mid 70's v8, but an efi? it hurts nothing and does keep the head temps done in an engine that does not want em....
i bought a 1993 ford f 150 5.8, the guy i bought it off of did a delete prior to selling it, my belt squeals like a pig, i thought it was the tensioner so i replaced it and it still squeals, i really want to put the smog back on due to exhaust leakage problems, but i am on a fixed income, does anyone know what belt i use, i tried a larger pulley but it rubs on the mount bolt for the tensioner, i was thinking of getting longer altenator bolts and some nuts and " raising it to make the belt not so loose. any suggestions would be appreciated. i have about a half inch or so of play in the belt and the tensioner is almost all the way on the block it rests on when its not doing its job. also belt is very sticky from what ever he used to spray on it.
