I-BEAM BUSHING INSTALL Help Please.

I have the Energy Suspension bushings that comes in 5 pieces: sleeve, center section and two end pieces with a separate ring which fits over one side.

What I don't know is which way is the side with the ring supposed to go? Towards the front, or towards the rear?

No directions came with the bushings.

Here's a couple of pics.

I'll be installing the same soon. I'm going to put the ring to the back. I have mine in the freezer and will be using my ball joint press to install them.

See, I always have a hard time with crap like this. Whether I over think it or assume, I have S?$%^ for luck. If it didn't matter then why not just make the damn pieces the same? ( two end pieces ) Not saying anything against you 351, but this is the shnit that drives me up a wall. You know, providing an aftermarket part with no installation instructions when it's plainly not obvious how the part should be implemented. ! If there is a specific manner in how they are supposed to be installed I know the first friggin time I do it will be wrong.

Ejo Mio, calm down
The important part of the pivot bushing is the ferrul or the metal tubie thingy in the middle. That is what gets squished in the hangy downy part from the frame.
I'm gonna let you go first though, so I don't screw it up the first time.

It's going on 4 years ago that I installed mine and I don't remember the orientation either. One thing I do know is before you install the bushings into the I-beam eye, and before installing the beams, is to put the synthetic grease on all surfaces of the bushing that will come in contact with metal. --otherwise, you'll have squeaks for days.

I watched a how-to vid on utube of these bushings being put in a 96 F250. Didn't discuss if there was a particular way so I'm just going to install them with the ring side facing toward the rear. I suppose either way the bushing is doing it's job right?

I tried to install a set of stock ones once, ended up sending the I beams to the dealer because they had the right tools.

If you're installing polyurethane bushings, you don't remove the thin metal shell from the eye of the I-beam --only the rubber bushing itself.

In this case, one way to get the rubber bushing out is....

Place a large washer on the side of bushing....

Insert bolt into washer.....

Place socket/extension on the head of the bolt and press the rubber bushing out.

I found FIRE is your friend for stock bushing removal .
Just hit the bushing with a torch (propane/mapp preferred) till it catches fire , let burn for 10 seconds or so blow it out then just push the bushing out with an old socket and extension .

LOL. Yeah, I watched that one before I came to you guys. I tried to find instructions as well.

Hey Steve, I didn't remove the sleeve and I actually used a propane torch to partially destroy the old rubber to get it out! Worked good. Just a tad smelly ( a familiar smell at one time in my life ). Once I had it started I used a large razor knife to get it all out. Thanks for the help and advice though.
