Since I'm in the process of updating my 56 to make it a reliable daily driver I want to be able to haul stuff. The paint on the inside of the bed is ok but not great and I would like to protect it from further abuse. I've looked at LineX, saw a truck with aluminum tread plate, and one carpeted (not for me). Seems my options are: 1) leave as is and put a tonneau cover on it, or 2) put some sort of lining on it. Do you folks have any experience/opinions on what might look best? Thanks in advance.
Larry
How tough are you going to be on it when you say you're going to haul stuff. Are you thinking cinder blocks or grandma's coffee table. I doubt you're thinking cinder blocks or river rock in a '56 (I hope!)
Why not just sand it and have a body shop paint just the inside to match the rest of the truck. Then just be a little careful with the "stuff" you haul. Put down a piece of plywood or a removable plywood liner, or use furniture pads etc.
I have a tonneau on mine. It looks cool, but is a pain to haul anything. If the item is small you have to crawl like a snake up to the front to retrieve it. If it is big you've got to remove and replace the tonneau.
There is a nice one around Nor CA that built an interior wood box. It is snug up to the inner bedsides and has sliders that can be removed and relocated to accomodate the load. It also protects the sheet metal from getting dented should the load shift during travel. He also attached the same finished wood to the tailgate to complete the package. Good luck, John
