Yes. If posi it would have an "L" in the middle of the 3.25 somewhere. Think between 3 and decimal? Or it's between decimal and 2. One or other, can't remember.
regarding the gear ratio.......this truck is basically the toy, pulls a Jon boat from time to time, maybe a 16 foot utility trailer, sack Crete and plywood from the big box every once in a while. It's comfortable at 70ish mph on the hwy, turning 2800-3000 rpm. What might I expect in a rpm reduction with a 3.00? I don't think my towing use would be overly affected.
So I'm still working towards limited slip and 3.00 gearing in this rear end, have been studying to best arm myself in digging through candidates for another center section at the pic-n-pull as an option. The documentation showed my axles to be 28 spline. I found a U tube video that said the exterior end of the axles, the hub, are cast different for the 28 and 31 spline axles.......kind of a "D" shape for 28 and three dimples or holes for 31, stated this holds true throughout the years.........yes I know, take many things from the web with a grain of salt (although I'm on it asking this question) and that Ford had oddities that might be rooted in transitions they where making.
Question is, is there any outward indication of spline count on the axles??
What info i did find showed my axles should be 31, book said they should be 28, and I pulled one and they are 28. Is the casting shape info bad info?? Here's another site that talks about end shape but says it's only certain before '71. www.metropartsmarket.com/rearend/measures.html
