Fender wells?

Silly question time. My 2003 Expedition does not have a "flaps" (for lack of a better word) attached to the front fender wells to fill the space above the upper A-arms. The lower edge of the inner fender does have a row of small holes that looks like something should attach there. Every other vehicle I have ever owned has had this seal.

I know the simple answer is to look at another Exp., but none are close by and this is bugging me now.

Tim

This has been a characteristic on Expeditions since their 1997 introduction. Some owners have used F-150 inserts to fill in the gap. Not a bad idea if you drive in wet or muddy conditions on a regular basis.

I wonder if 2004 F-150's still use these flaps and if they can be adopted to a 2003-04 Expedition.

Yeah I felt there was way too much open area there for crap to splash up on the engine. I solved the problem by adapting the flaps that normally go on an Explorer to fit my Expy. A few cuts here and there and a few plastic insert bolts and the problem was solved. Seems like just another case where Ford tried to save a Nickel only to get bad vibes from their customers.

So, the good news is that it is not just mine. But the bad news is that it is all of them.

Oh well.

My '97 came with full coverage on the inner wheel well liners. Good thing too. If open, offroad gravel, mud, or sand, or winter slush it would make a real mess of of the engine compartment not to mention the open air K&N filter I used to have mounted.
