I just got done doing ujoints and a center support bearing on my rear driveline. I put it back in and took it for a drive and had a horrible shake like the whole truck was gonna come apart at 30 mph, When I got back to the house, I noticed weight had fallen off driveline.
I took it to the local driveline specialist and he rebalanced it, I still have a slight shake at 30mph. He told me he left all the other original weights on it and had to put a couple more weights on there. could the fact that he didn't strip all the weights and start at 0 have anything to do with it being out of balance?
I did and guy at driveline shop checked everything before he put it on balancer. Says he had **** come apart once and doesn't want it to happen again. What else could cause it to still shake.
It's hard to tell just by looking at the shaft since the total runout is going to be very small but if you used Spicer u-joints, you may have doubled-up on the trunnion shims. In each cap, on the end of each trunnion, is a small round plastic disk. If you took both caps off and one disk stayed on the trunnion and the other stayed in the cap, you may have mixed them up and now you have two plastic disks in one cap and none in the other. This WILL make the u-joint slightly offset in the yoke and WILL cause a vibration.
never thought that could cause a vibration, but it's worth looking into. guy at driveline place told me he had it to within 2 thou. obviously something is going on. I do know I need to get it figured out fast though with my elk hunts starting soon.
