1990 Ranger Freebie

today i was blessed o cursed haven't decided yet with a 1990 ranger xlt 2wd 2.9l 5 speed.
oil and water mixed m
both in the crankcase and radiator and a leaking water pump
119,000 miles on the old guys truck

after tugging her home i drained the oil and muck from the engine and radiator
remove the radiator clutch fan assembly water pump

i was looking foir an owner manual chilton, haynes, ect to show me the proper steps to replacing what i hope are the head gaskets
and not the heads after looking at the pics in the forums

it a well maintained little truck
i just couldnt stand to see it chopped up for a utility bed trailer
anyway please send advice and links to the repair handbooks if you know where they are hidden
attached are 2 pics

go to autozone.com and they have reference manuals for working on various vehicles. Chilton put out a repair manual, typical for them expects some knowledge base to do the work. again at autozone, check ebay or someplace like that for manuals also.

As stated, get a good repair manual. I would then pressure test the coolant system and see how your coolant is getting into the oil.
The Ford 2.9 had a reputation for cracking heads. I'm hoping you won't have to buy them, but new replacement heads are still available from the aftermarket that resist cracking. If you do go that route, a complete engine rebuild should be considered.
But since you are not looking at getting new heads, never mind my advice. Let' hope your truck needs minimal repairs to get it road worthy.

Looksl ike you got a deal there. If you were not on the other side of the country, I'd be asking how much for your parts truck sans motor, since finding one rust free and running like that here would easily be a $1500-$3k truck.

ok gang ive finished the engine swap and been driving a few days ...shake down runs and today off to work i went
when it was cold seemed like there was a hesitation under partial throttle
then when i gave it more gas it was fine
after warmed all the way not much issue but check engine light came on on the ride home
i did the engine code test heres what i got
KOEO 11 SYSTEM OK
KOEO 14 PIP CIRCUIT FAIL

3 BLINKS FOR V6 HAD TO LEARN TO PUSH THE BREAK AND TURN THE POWER STEERING THAT CLEARED CODE 73 AND 74 FROM KOER AND TO REV IT UP AFTER 1 BLINK TO TEST WIDE OPEN THROTLE

BUT I STILL HAD KOER 41 SYSTEM LEAN AT ALL TIMES
WHAT SHOULD MY NEXT DIRECTION BE ?
I HAVE A NEW CAP N ROTOR TO GO IN WHEN RAIN CLEARS

COULD THAT MESS THE PIP SENSOR UP THEY ARE USED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT RAN OUT OF CASH TILL PAYDAY LAST
also i checked the vac its at 17 at 850 rpm and 21 ish at 2500 rpm
timing double checked @10 deg btdc
fpr pressure koeo 15
fpr koer 23
did the carb cleaner trick found 1 vac line with crack replaced it
new cap and rotor are now on
i looked for he orange wird from the o2 sensor its in the wire loom no place to attach to anythin
