Tonneau cover recommendations

Looking to see what hard sided bi-fold and tri-fold covers everyone is using. Pros and cons of what you have. Hoping to keep the cost around or under the $600 mark. Security is important because I will be carrying my fire department turn out gear in the bed. It is much better to keep the wet, stinky, dirty gear in the bed than on the back seat

Thank you in advance.

Have you thought about Peragon at all? https://www.peragon.com/

I know a couple forum members have them (Including Tim, one of the moderators) and love them. When the day comes that I move to an Screw with a 5.5' box, I will be ditching my current tool box in favor of one of these. You mentioned security is very important and they have a dual deadbolt system available.

They are also a site sponsor and I believe give FTE members a discount. Made in america and family owned also helps the cause.

Sorry that I don't have a real world review, I have just heard enough good things from this company to be sold on it already.

Robb, another forum member that I know quite well suggested the Peragon cover, but with the discounts (FTE and first responder) it is still quite a bit over my current budget. It definitely is a nice looking cover.

No problem Robb. I need to keep the CFO (my wife) happy or the Peragon would be in the running.

I had an undercover flex on my last truck. fiberglass trifold. was a good cover. if you shop around can usually get them on sale for 600 or so. keep an eye on C***list. a lot of people take them out when they trade in their rigs

I absolutely love my bakflip revolver x2. I had a bakflip tri fold and a leer 700 clamshell and this is by far my favorite. I will never buy another cover unless a better version of this one comes out. It has most of the benefits of a soft tonneau with the security of a hard. Granted it still has the flaws of being able to be opened like all bakflips, but it will keep the semi-honest people out. Combine that with a pop and lock tailgate lock and I feel pretty safe. It also has a complete vinyl covering so it doesn't leak water like the bakflip trifold did at the folds.

I'm certain that when comparing prices, the Peragon is likely the least expensive of them all.

One question that I have for you is; Is is absolutely paramount that the bed stays 100% dry when raining or storming? If so, the Peragon and most likely any folding cover may not be the right piece of equipment for you. You may have to look into a solid fiberglass over-cover.

In my case with the Peragon, since it's not 100% water tight, I use totes if I carry anything that I need to stay completely dry. That's pretty rare though.

I'd buy the cover again. It's American made and the after purchase customer service / support is second to nobody.

I'd advise you to shop around.

Thanks Tim. I have been researching and I know that any bed cover will leak to some degree. I just need to weigh the options before making my final decision..... which will be soon.

I have a Extang Trifecta. Doesn`t lock but after driving thru a near monsoon none of my camping gear in the bed got wet . Cost was about $400. My nephew has one on his Tundra and loves it . Also it is easy to install and remove.

I have an Encore Tonno by Extang on a 2015 F150 work truck. I lock my test gear in it and it does keep the rain out. Not sure of what they cost but they work well. Otherwise keep looking for a used SnugTop topper, they don't sell for much second hand.

Looks like you loose at least a foot of the front on a paragon because it needs to fold down to open. Not good for me looks like if I load something and it slides forward I can't get it open.

Only about 5 inches and the cover sits very high off the bed floor so you still have room to load the 4x8 sheet, etc.

Here's the best part about the Paragon cover. If you need that space for hauling anything, the folding panels can easily be removed. Even if your already out somewhere, say the hardware store for example. And what your hauling takes up the full amount of usable bed space, those folding panels are designed so that they'll fit in the cab of your truck behind the seat. Even if your truck is a regular short cab. I love my Paragon and wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
