I recently bought a 93 F250 4X4, 5-speed with the 460. It doesn't have a manual with it, could you guys tell me what both front and rear diffs take for gear oil, as well as the transfer case and transmission? Thanks.
Thanks. The guy I bought it from said it uses 90wt from front to rear. I didn't think that sounded right. I know my 97 uses ATF in the TC. It's an auto so wasn't sure on a 5-speed.
Spoiler alert: My '88 with the 5-spd manual had 80/90 wt in it from the PO when I bought it with 153K mi on it. That ruined it, I was told, when I took it to the shop. It started leaking oil so bad and it was making BAD noises at 10K later I had to replace it. It needed ATF. That's in the owners manual.

I wish I had an owners manual. The parts store guy swore it should hold 90wt. I'm convinced it holds Mercon, just trying to figure out if Mercon V will work and if I should overfill it.
Dextron III and Mercon III are the same thing. Mercon V wont hurt anything. All Adding the extra Qt to the 5 speed does is quiet gear roll over noise. To add it you have to pull the shifter. Do not put 90wt in it. For one thing you can not shift them in cold weather.
There is no such thing as Mercon III. There's just regular Mercon and Mercon V. (Technically there are a few more different types of Mercon, but I won't get into that here). Ford originally specified regular Mercon for that transmission. Regular Mercon is the same thing as Dexron III. Dexron is a registered trademark of GM and Mercon is a registered trademark of Ford. Ford and GM have different names for the same fluid. That's why bottles will say "Dexron III/Mercon" or "Dex III/Merc" or "Dex/Merc" for short. You can easily find bottles of "Dexron III/Mercon" at any auto parts store, but Mercon V will work as well.
