Dana 44 question

I have a '79 F250 4x4, with a Dana 44 front axle. I am looking to do an engine conversion which involves a 6BTA5.9 Cummins diesel engine, with possibly a NV4500HD transmission. Will this axle be heavy enough??? I know a Dana 60 would be better, but I don't have a 60 and the 44 is already in it. This truck would mainly be used as a daily driver, work around the farm, and maybe a couple of local truck pulls in the summer. What's everybody's opinion??? Thanks in advance.

i think it would work ok in your aplication, might want to beef up the shafts and u-joints. and stiffer springs. a 60 would be better though wouldn't have to worry about much breaking on those.

There is an 82F2504x4 on ebay with this same motor swapped in, and '95 sheetmetal. It also has a front 60 and rear 10.25". Look into this, maybe it will save you money.
