Irma workout

Wife put her bump to work clearing up Irma's trash. She needs about 40 more trips to the brush pile.

Yea, we are way above an area to flood. If we did all of south Florida would be under water.

We are on thee west side of Orlando and took that track change for you. Lucky we are somewhat prepared and keep the trees trim and cleaned out. We are on 26 acres and have a couple of brush piles to place stuff. Have remodeled both houses with new windows etc.. one built in 1946 and the other in 1950 and both very well built, will put them up to new construction any day.

Biggest plus is orientation of the houses to the surrounding land. Both face west and a bit south, so all the east winds are blocked by woods and a slight rise in the land so they go right over the houses and hit the tops of the trees. South comes across the lake to the left of both house and is somewhat blocked by heavy trees, etc.. which knocks the wind down. Put all the vehicles on the lake side direct into the wind facing south, better then to be under trees. The trees in the background are way outside their fall zone.

9.3 in, weather station 33.
Wind I would say was 75 mph? we went right though the east side of the eye and it had been downgraded by then. Cell service just came up later today so that's why you might not have heard from them. Our land line is down also, but was able to power the net up with the gen's.
Wind lasted all day/night with the worst for us after the eye wall passed.

From: Mims, FL
I'm on the east coast near Titusville, Kennedy Space Center. I can tell you it was pretty wild over here with numerous tornadoes and flooding. None in our house, nor any damage, but I still have standing water on a lot of my property (2 acres) and a bunch of tree limbs big and small down all over.

I've got several loads left to get it cleared out, but some of it I'll have to wait until the water goes down. Still no power, but have a 5500 watt generator which runs some things.

Yea, a guy I know lives out in Mims and is always dealing with water which just normal Florida weather, he must be in his boat by now. There was lot's of weather blowing from the Atlantic to you guys on the coast. Always seems to breed tornadoes, which is really what I was worried about.

There is a lot of lowland around here. Common wisdom is to only look to purchase land/house after an exceptional wet time, and this would qualify. We built our house in late '01 into '02 and the county made us be so high above the road, which equated to almost 20K in dirt for the house and septic. We moaned about it then, but this is the 2nd really wet hurricane (of the 7ish since living here) and it never got anywhere near our door, vs the neighbor across the street.

I have 1500 sq ft of garage, half of which is air conditioned. The pad leading up to the garage doors is at an angle, which is a PITA sometimes with a non-op vehicle outside the door, but we had to make do within the budget.

We were out walking the neighborhood today as the road down from us finally is not under water. My "pond" in the front yard has fish in it. Got a bunch of minnows and some bigger ones too, but none big enough to catch and fry up. My neighbor was saying they caught a catfish and a pretty good sized Koi. None of us normally have standing water on our lots.

Good news is none of my trucks got hurt. Bad news is I can't get one started, and it's parked sideways across one of the garage doors. Been fiddling with it all day and robbed a battery out of my other one, so after a good charge hopefully will start later on.

You need to teach your wife how to climb up there and stomp that pile down. She coulda easily gotten 4-5 more piles just like that in there and saved all them trips.
