I just took off the door panels on my explorer and then cut the connector off of the stock speaker. Then I used some butt connectors to connect the existing wires to my speaker wires. Prolly wasn;t the best way to go about things but it worked.

The amp is in the rear passenger area just in front of the rear wheel well. You need to remove the plastic interior piece. It only takes a few minutes to remove and is held in by plastic push pins. The speaker wires are all there together at the amp. You will probably want to disconnect the amp and run your wires to your head unit. There is a channel along the passenger side doors that handles the wires easily. Wiring adapters so you don't have to splice should be available at audio stores.

Man, I did it the crappy way. I was new to stereo install at the time and cut my connectors. I wish i hadn't now because there are adapters. I also heard someone talk about this amp but i basically disregarded it. Should I take it out or just leave it to power my speakers since I don't have an amp on them right now? Is it crappy and making my streo worse than it would be with no amp?

Thanks

I think the amp is pretty worthless and could make the speakers sound worse than without. Likely by cutting the speaker wires the amp is not doing anything anyway. Most decent aftermarket head units are far superior to the Ford HU and amp combination.
