Frame Rust
OK, a thread on another Ford page (Sorry!... I know...) got me thinking about rust on the frame. Is it just a cosmetic problem or is it something to worry about? I'm up here in the snow belt, and I'm considering greasing it down. The factory black wax coating isn't very tough. What's the deal?? thanks!

Depends on how much rust we are talking about.....it could be a problem.....however....most vehicles up where you live probably have frame rust as well......

well it was just surface rust. But it was really bothering me. Years of driving foreign cars has made me paranoid about any rust. So today I coated all the affected areas with wheel bearing grease using a paint brush. In a few days it should pick up a layer of dust and take on a nice flat black appearance. This always worked great with the foreign cars I used to have. Even after I sold them, a few years later I would meet the current owner and still no rust. Grease really does the trick.
I wish they would paint the frames with a zinc based paint instead of just giving them the "hot wax dip" treatment which does not offer much protection.
