EAB Heads

Here is a pic of the driver side head off of my engine. The main casting is EAB. I have seen posts with part numbers associated with them-are there different types of EAB heads?
THANKS ALL,
Doc

Nope, AFAIK all EAB heads are the same. They were passenger car heads off '52-'53 engines, and are considered the best factory heads for flow and compression. Super-high 7.2:1 compression ratio! Yeegads, you'll get a sore neck from all that power!!

I had read they were considered good! I'll need all the extra go to drive the AOD I am putting behind her!
It looks to have been surfaced ages ago for the rebuild my dad had done in '64... The cam looks like new still, may just have it checked, not sure if it is worth a regrind to a higher lift and longer duration? Definitely going to go with adjustable lifters!

Thanks a bunch-got a great laugh!

Have you figured out how to do the AOD throttle valve linkage/cable? Unless you go with a Holley or Edelbrock 4-barrel, it is not easy to do and throttle valve setting is absolutely critical on AOD's. They can burn up in 10 miles unless done right.

I wouldn't mess with the cam. Going to something more radical will kill low-end torque, which is about all the flathead has going for it. There is no escaping the fact they can't breathe, it's just inherent in the design, and hard to overcome without lots of work.

I wouldn't buy anything but genuine Sealed Power/Johnson adjustables, from Red's Headers. Many chinesesium copies out there that are soft or inconsistent quality.

More great advice!

I thought I would have to go with a little 4 barrel to be able to make the tv cable work, even though some of the numbers seem to indicate a two carb system breaths as good as it gets on the flatty.
I sure have read of heartaches caused by nor have that pressure correct.
I like Red's page of stuff. I plan to use his headers too! They give as much or more horse power as doing some super radical internal stuff without the trade-offs.
One more question, do most run the wide belts or go to the narrow belts?

Can't wait to get the point you are at!

You're stuck with the wide belts unless you do a bunch of retrofitting. Truck water pumps don't come with narrow sheaves, car water pumps don't have the same "foot" for engine support. Stick with wide.

Does Red's claim a HP gain from their headers? I'd be surprised. I have them and I can't say they do more than make good noises. The critical part of the exhaust system is inside the block on a flathead. Not much you can do about it. I went with headers because my stock manifolds were cracked, and good ones are hard to find (and bound to crack).
