Hurricane Irma is so strong it's starting to show up on seismometers in the Caribbean -- equipment designed to measure earthquakes.

Hurricane #Irma now a category 5 and it's a beast. It's larger than the state of Ohio, if that helps put it in perspective.
I'm trying to convince my folks in Melbourne to pack up and leave now. They're on the east coast just east of Orlando, which is now right in the center of the projection cone. Of course my father is being stubborn.

Everyone stay safe down there.
Keep trying. I saw what happened after Andrew first hand. Small storm in size but was like a huge tornado. Not a lot was left standing. Irma is currently packing about 185 MPH winds. I don't see much holding up to that. Andrew hit at about 130-140MPH.
A lot of people live on that coastline and many on a spit of beach between the Atlantic surf and the Intercoastal waterway. I pray those people get out.
My work was already soliciting for volunteers to detail to the east coast once the hurricane hits, if needed. I volunteered. Hoping for everyone along the coast that something changes, but it looks like I'll be "visiting" the east coast soon. Be safe and get out if you can!

We are safe. No power, no water, everything destroyed. Buildings gone. Please pray as this island is decimated.
This is a monster that's looks like it's got a bullseye on Florida. If your heading North we got space up here for a couple of truck and campers. We snowbirds go south in winter maybe we can return the favour!
Praying for everyone in Florida that may be in the projected path of this huge storm...living in SE Louisiana all my life I know what these storms can do.
I am in northeast Florida so we shouldn't get it as bad as our south Florida brethren. I am planning on staying put. I know folks leaving south Florida have a nightmare with traffic and gas shortages. I have room for a couple of medium size trailers (campers, boats...) in my yard if someone needs to cut loose for travel ease. I don't know what this is going to bring, but like our Texan brethren we will get through this. Prayers to those who've had to evacuate. Be careful and stay safe. If me or my family can be of service to anyone traveling through here please hit me up.
Stressful even up here in North FL area - lots of damage on the way esp to South FL and there is nothing to stop it unless it turns at the last minute. Mother nature - what are you going to do? Hope all in the path stay safe!

Last report I saw was about 3 hours ago they said Irma turned, and unless it changes again, is the worst case scenario for Florida. Direct hit up the center of the state.
Man I don't know why in the world so many people chose to say home when something like this happens. I can understand the concern for the security of your personal belonging but nothing is worth risking you and your family's life.
