Question 96 E150 - Unable to program new remote key fobs

(Updated post to be more accurate)

I picked up a 1996 E150 conversion van a few months ago and have been fixing some of the issues.
  • After jumping the pins below the steering wheel, the door locks cycled letting me know I was in programming mode. However, when I click the remote key fob the locks don't cycle again and the remote is not programmed.
  • Having a different issue I replaced the remote keyless entry module with an identical new module (F2UZ-15K602-AA). This fixed my other issue but not the remote programming.
  • I even purchased a second set of key fobs but still no luck.
  • I've tried various tricks like opening the doors, closing the doors, unlocking the door with the key, ignition in off, on, acc, run, and even newer van models version of programming but no dice.

I'm clueless at this point. Are there any other modules involved?

EDIT: Pictures of anti-theft light and module in a later post.

Not familiar with jumping the pins. On my vans (2000 and 2010) I have to use turn the ignition key very very rapid several times (10?) to get into programming mode and then just press the open button on as many remotes I want to program. This procedure is in your owners manual and you could find several Videos online. It is the same procedure for old F trucks.

Thanks. I know on the newer vans you turn the ignition 10 times or so to enter programming mode but on my 1996 there is a connector below the steering wheel. You bridge the connectors and the process is the same from then on out.

For some reason I can't get past this step though.

Sorry if this is a normal part of the standard procedure but when I was stuck trying to program remotes on my E350, the solution was to leave the driver's door open while doing it, any attempts with the door closed failed.

Thanks. I tried with the door open and the door closed. I tried unlocking and locking the door while the door was shut as well.

The kicker is the van is entering programming mode after jumping the pins. Most of my searches find people who can't get their vehicle in programming mode. So I'm stuck between programming mode and it recognizing my remote.

Could the security module be bad and causing the problem? Would replacing my door locks and ignition to matching keys fix anything? (I don't have the door keys)

These are the key fobs I picked up.

Here's the new RKE module I purchased on installed. It fixed my doors randomly locking and unlocking.

Thanks. Geez, cars were simpler 20 years ago. Seems like a completely straight-forward deal. Maybe there's some aftermarket wiring like an old remote start system or something getting in the way?

Did you leave the key in the on position while programming?

I have a perplexing problem with a new key fob for my 2011 F150. I successfully programed it, and everything remote works...the door locks, remote start, alarm (honking), but when I put the key in the ignition, and turn it to the on position, it kills the engine and I see the message "engine start fault". It seems like I have tried everything, so I wonder if anyone else has seen anything like that.

I'm leaning towards installing an aftermarket remote unlock. I've tried many combinations of ACC/ON, doors closes, doors, opened etc.. and the locks always cycle to say I'm in programming mode. Unfortunately the key fobs don't cycle the locks and don't work.

Quick question, does your anti-theft light blink when your drivers door is open? I'm trying to figure out if maybe my security module is bad.

I don't even know if I have anti-theft. I have no blinking anything or a dash indicator that mentions anti-theft at all.

Bumping this post with some update information.

I'm also attaching a picture of the anti-theft module and the blinking light. (It only blinks when a door is open and the vans off, which I assume is normal) I still don't know if it has anything to do with my problem though. And it's worth noting I believe it functions just fine. The alarm went off when I removed the ignition lock without removing the negative battery cable.

I don't have that light, and all the times I've been under the dash I've not seen that module. But then, maybe mine's different because it's an E-350? You wouldn't think so, but they did skip OBDII for mine in 96.

Interesting. Mine has OBDII as well. It is a conversion van so they may all the bells and whistles. The module is actually located next to the remote keyless entry module behind the drivers seat on the lower wall panel.
