My truck is getting a replacement windshield. The glass shop told me they are required (by my insurance company) to buy the cheapest windshield of acceptable quality, which means it will be Chinese. They will use a better one if I contribute the extra cost. Is there a better one available?
Eric
But you can probably buy 5 or 6 of the Chinese ones for what it will cost you. A friend and I just put in a Chinese one (PWG) in my truck last week. It fit perfect we had it in in less than 30 minutes.
I agree, then there's shipping. Not a show truck so I'll go with the Chinese one. Yours looks like what my glass shop described - tinted green with a blue band (?).
Hey, are you going to show us that truck?
Eric
Another clueless ebay seller, the clear & tinted windshields are the same: 1961/66 F100/1100; 1963/69 N/NT500/1100; 1967/69 F800/1000.
The NAGS number is W602, specify clear or tinted. NAGS: National Auto Glass Society, numbers used by auto glass shops.
The Sun Band windshield was not offered by FoMoCo for trucks/Bronco's/Econolines until the early 1980's. I installed one in my '65 F100 in 1981.
Sun Band is a tinted windshield with extra tint across the top. If one is tall, attempting to see thru that extra tint at night may be difficult (as I soon found out ).
Those Chi-Com's make a pretty good windshield. I got this one locally for $85 + an extra 5 bucks for insurance in case we broke it putting it in. It has a real narrow band at the top. I could have got one that was just tinted but I thought that darker band would look better on a white truck. I know ND has said it blocks your vision at night some, but what the heck I can barely see in the daylight.
This is about as far as I've gotten on this thing. I have been trying to finish the wiring and every thing else I can do inside the cab and under the hood before I put the sheet metal on it. That way I don't have to worry about dinging something while I'm working on it.
Bill is absolutely right about that dark piece across the top. I put one in one of my 65's and put up with it for about 2 months. I'm only 6 foot but every time I drove it, I got a stiff neck trying to see out that darn thing. I finally replaced it for just a tinted one with no dark band on top. Sold it to a fellow F-100 owner that was shorter than I. He loved it. My other 65 has buckets which set lower but I wasn't really interested in doing a sun shade windshield in that one.
Should I dare to say that some things made in China are not so bad. Hope I didn't get myself in too much hot water for saying that. Too much PC these days. Not enough 'safe spaces' I guess. OOPS, there I go again...

I got mine from a local body shop distributer. I have seen them on e-bay. Getting one from someone local is the best way because you don't have to hassle with a return if something is wrong with it. Also most of them will insure it for next to nothing, I paid $5. that way they if you break it putting it in you get another one free.
exactly What is a "BODY SHOP DISTRIBUTER" I need one also and would love to know who I should contact.
Just go to any of your favorite body shops or glass shop and ask them if they will get you a windshield. If they like you it will be cheap if not get your wallet out.
CropDuster, that rebuild looks spectacular! Is that Colonial White? Corinthian? Again, looks awesome.
It's supposed to be Wimbledon White. But the formulas they have for the new environmentally friendly paints don't cross over very well with the old paint colors. So I'm taking their word for it.
Amazing work so far I like the white on black I'm just now starting my 62f100 restoration sticking with the stock drive line but resto mod the rest I wish ya the best with the rest of it
