I now have almost 6,000 miles on the truck and now a serious squeek has surfaced in the dashboard. I broought is back to the dealership (which i have some reservations about) and after having the truck for a whole day, i was told:
"We have seen this before and the problem usually corrects itself. If it does not go away, they will have to take apart the whole dash."
Has anyone else seen this? The noise occurs with the littlest bump. It seems to be near the gauge cluster.
Hey Fred,
If you find a cure for that freaking squeek let me know what it is. My 02' (17k miles) just started doing it today. It was driving me nuts on my drive home today. I was thinking maybe it was due to the weather change cause it has been in the fifties here. I would have just cranked up the tunes but I had my kids with me and don't want them going deaf.

Mine started squeeking after about 30,000 miles. The dealership checked it out, but couldn't find it. They said the same thing, that they would have to take the dash apart. I didn't want them to do that. After awhile, it seemed to just go away on it's own. I do hear it every now and then, but, nothing like it used to be. Could be to pieces of plastic rubbing together where they might be a little close. The only answer I have is to take the dash apart, and either sand the plastic, or put felt in between all the joints.
I will figure it out over the next couple of weeks. I will keep track of my time and then submit a bill to the dealership that told me "Da, yup ther is a squeek in der".
It just floors me that a dealership can pull that crap on a customer and FORD allows it. I even asked for a quality survey card for the visit so that I can tell them what I really think.
If it's on the passenger side of the dash, try the glove compartment scews, screw nuts and/or hinges. I had a bad squeak and that's what it turned out to be.
My dash was squeaking bad by the gauges too. Funny how a little noise can drive you INSANE!! Anyway, I took off the dash surround and added a little vasoline to these rubber bumpers that are on the back of the panel. Problem solved and it's been over 3 years. You'll need to pull the radio to get to 2 screws then the rest of the panel just pulls off.
Well, after talking (shouting) at the owner of the local dealership, he assures me they will "correct the situation" with the squeek in the dashboard. I took the tech for a short ride to prove to him the squeek. He agreed that there is a major squeek on the drivers side.
The truck is being worked on as i write this. I will post the details after getting it back.
Well it is now Fixed
The tech found where the dashboard was mounted to the firewall had a burred end. It was located on the firewall behind the steering column.
Man it feels good to not hear the damn squeek.
