My truck came from Utah, where it was required to go through safety and emission testing every year. We moved to Pennsylvania, where safety check was required, but it was exempt each year due to low yearly mileage (less than 2000 miles on it since 2011). Soon we will be packing up for a moved to my home state of Ohio, into an area where emission and safety inspections aren't required. I will finally be able to have a little fun with the exhaust system and not worry about passing the emission test. Luckily, it passed each test in UT, the initial test in PA in 2011, and one that I wanted done last year, just to make sure all was working properly.
I was in Western Ohio last month, and saw vehicles that I know would not pass a safety inspection, which scares me, since they were on the highway at highway speeds...with rust holes big enough to put my head through.
It's gonna be good to be able to open the truck's breathing a bit without worry, though. A nice high performance cat, twin pipes and some nicely tuned mufflers will be nice.
Lucky you! I'm still stuck here in the land of unnecessary vehicle requirements. It used to kill me seeing non roadworthy vehicles with Ohio plates driving without any issues and I would get harassed about the tires on my jeep sticking out too far, not to mention the emissions crap we go through. I hope everything goes well with your move and enjoy being able to modify your truck however you would like to.

It will be nice to have a little bit more freedom, that is certain. My 2005, Tahoe, of which I was **** about washing and such, still rusted the frame to where it was going to have issues in another year or two at inspction, so I traded it in on something else. The F250, however, shows no problems due to us keeping the miles off of it, and keeping it off the road when they spray and salt. I've never seen rust create so much problems in vehicles as I've seen here in the Pittsburgh area. When I traded in the Tahoe, the new vehicle got all the rust preventative I could afford before it left the dealership.
I won't get too crazy with it in Ohio, but I don't think what I want to do will pass a PA inspection.
Seriously, though...the crap on the roads in Ohio is really scary at times. I was there last Summer and saw a truck with a frame bent so badly, that it looked like it was turning left while it was going straight. I think Ohio would benefit with safety inspections...
