No Heat Fixed

2006 F350 CC 5.4l - had to use the heater this morning due to cold and dew on the windshield. No heat though. Turned out to be a connection in the engine that had fallen off. Plugged back in and works. Is the circled gray connection in the picture. Just passing it along in case it helps someone else. Was getting ready to pull the blend door behind the glove compartment - this was simpler.

It's not a very snug fit. It's been off before and I've stuck it back on, but I guess I never had to use the heat while it was off so I never knew what it was for.

That's a vacuum line for the coolant valve. That valve will close with vacuum when the AC is on and is on cab recirculate/max. If the line falls of it will default the system to defrost due to the drop in vacuum. You should have still had hot air though.

Thanks. Definitely didn't have any warm air coming out - tried shutting the hvac off/on, different modes, turned a/c on and off, etc in about 20 minutes of driving. found it after i got home. Engine was still warm and could feel warm air coming out when I started it up. Maybe just a coincidence.

No, it will not affect outlet air flow. Except, perhaps, n the MAX AC position.

Absolutely. That valve is only closed off (blocks heater core flow) when the controls are in MAX AC which is when vacuum is supposed to be applied to the valve.

The only way that disconnected hose could have caused a "no heat" condition is if the valve were operating exactly opposite of how it's supposed to. Perhaps it was temporarily stuck in the closed position and futzing with it caused it to be opened like it was supposed to be.

I knocked off that vacuum line once checking my transmission fluid. It's easily pulled off.

There isn't a "max ac" button on this truck though; there is one on my 2011

The max ac will be when you press auto or the car with the circle around it.

Ah, you have the EATC version. Would have been helpful to tell us that.

The EATC automatically controls the coolant valve based on a number of parameters and may be activated in any mode position except OFF.

I would have.......except I've never heard of "EATC". I just drive it; I don't build 'em.
