Transfer case jammed?
Hey guys, my 94 F-150 has done me well over the summer I have had it, trips to the dump, Home Depot etc. has been great. Even helping the buddies out with their tasks. As I was getting more familiar with the truck lately I decided at the dump a while back to try and put it in 4x4 since the road was pretty muddy up to the top of the dump. I hopped out and locked in the hubs and when I went to pull the 4x shift lever back into 4 Hi I couldn't move it. The lever doesn't want to move at all so trying to make sure I was doing this right I read the manual and couldn't figure out anything I was doing wrong, I really tried to strong arm the thing too, it doesn't want to move.
Any tips or thoughts? Is this common for them? I'd at least like to be somewhat informed before I take it in to get looked at so I don't get bent over the counter and taken for a ride if you know what I mean.

I would take a look underneath, There is a linkage that is acceptable to mud and water. You will see what I mean when you look. The shifter must move up and down freely and may be your problem.

Do you get any high gear at all? If not the 1356 aluminum Borg/Warner transfer case has struck again!!! And trust me you won`t like it. Go to www.thegrid.net/thedrivetrainpage/borg1356.html this will explain everything. If you have to replace the cluster may suggest that you call 1-800-634-3001 and order from the manufacturer, as the Ford Dealer will cost twice as much

I agree with c_rossman. Start with the simplest solution. I had this problem too on my 94 F-150 XLT. The shift linkage underneath can get sticky, such that a clean shift into 4 isn't possible, but greasing up the linkage is simple to do.
