Spending 40K on a 5.5 foot bed truck is the definition of moronic.
Wonder what the definition would be for those who've spent closer to $60K? Everyone uses their truck in a different manner. I tow an enclosed car trailer with mine and only go to the dump occasionally. I thought the 5.5 bed made more sense for my needs. Unfortunately, now I really feel stupid for purchasing such a useless truck.

Yeah, that post just gives the war department more ammunition! NOT what I needed.

Some people don't need a long bed, but do need towing capacity, room for 4 adults, ground clearance, and 4x4. A moron would be the person who thinks that everyone buys a truck for the same type of use.

I've had both. I've hauled a ton of crap with both.
Just traded of the 2012 F250 6.7 for a 2017 F150 5.0 with the 5.5 bed. Previous rigs were 1/2 ton CCabs with short beds.
As someone else said, it handles 95% of what I need. The tree stands, Feeders, mulch, trash, junk, etc all fit just fine. If you need lumber hauled the 8 footers work great and longer goes on my utility trailer.
YMMV. (that's nicer than calling everyone who doesn't agree with you a moron, moron.)
There are like 100 four door trucks in my little town and not once have I ever seen anyone riding in the backseat. Just sayin'
So you are carefully looking through those tinted windows of every truck, just to see if they have anyone in the back seat? Why the fascination with how other people use their truck?
I suppose you also think that none of them ever go off-road, because you only see them on-road? And that they never pull a trailer, since you never saw them pulling one? Maybe in the future you should be more careful about calling other people "morons" because they use their truck differently than you do. If you need an 8-foot bed, then buy one, but don't criticize other people because they have different needs than you.

Yep, I agree. Most of the time I am in my 2015 FX4 Lariat Screw 501A by my self, however. 3 days a week i pick up 4 grandkids and take them to my house till their mother gets off work. Plus my wife and I drive it on vacation / trips because it has a better ride than the 2016 Escape, which is great around town. I would have liked to had the 6.5 bed like my 07 Screw had but non was available and they made me a sweet deal on this one. I even got a set of ramps that have never been used. It hauls my boat ice chests and fishing gear, whatever I need to haul at the time. Sticker was 55,000 I got 9,000 off plus 4,000 over blue book for my trade in. payments are actually less on this than they were on the 12 Screw XLT 301A 4X4 I traded in!
Look I think Ford makes a great truck for all kinds of folks but the biggest bubble in the history of tulip bulbs will be four door pick-up trucks with short beds. I'd get out before the resale bottoms. I will never figure out how a '79 Chevy 1/2 ton 8 foot bed was able to take three guys deer hunting....and go to work on Monday.....a mystery it is.
Our last 3 crew cabs had 6.5's and it will stay that way. The wife doesn't like small cars on vacation and she says fuel milage is my problem. When a group of guys are going to races there is nothing like a 4 door Ford... More room than all the rest.
I feel no need to explain or justify why I bought mine. I won't worry about why you bought yours. 4 door crew cab 5.5' bed trucks aren't a bubble. That configuration is the best selling truck on the market.

I really don`t understand where you`re coming from.
Biggest bubble in the history of pickup trucks are the ones equipped with four doors and a short bed and people should get out before the resale bottoms out?
Based on the latter part of your statement where you mentioned a 79 Chevy with an eight foot bed, it`s obvious your a Chevy/GM man and that`s cool because the GM twins are great trucks but the vast majority of people needing an 8 foot bed on a pickup truck is minuscule compared to people who want or only need the 5.5 bed and the four doors are great for a family with 3-4 kids.
If what you said is true, then the vast majority of pickup trucks in the new or used market would only be regular cab pickup trucks with 6 or 8 foot beds and that`s simply not the case.
With that being said, just enjoy what configuration pickup you have instead of calling people morons because they don`t want or have a truck configured like your truck.
