need some help

Ok i have a 86 ford 4x4 with a 300 i6 in it i have have heard from some people if u put a head from a early i6 that it well boost my hp by like 30 to 40 hp they were saying the head is off a 70s i6.
Just wondering if this is true or not

Not sure. Thought they used the head off a 240 I6 to boost compression. Then you will probably need high test fuel to prevent knock, but should boost power. The 240 and 300 were build from same block design and so should be relatively compatable.

You could also have you head shaved or milled down a little to boost compression. I would check to see what ratio you are actually at right now and not go beyond 9-1 or 9.5-1 so it can still run on low test gas. If you go past 10-1 your looking at buying premium all the time. A machine shop would be able to advise you on how much you can take off.

Is that the only advantage of a 240 head? I thought I heard someone say they flowed better? I'm not interested in raising compression since I'm planning on adding a turbo later.

i'm not really sure but i was told but a few people if i used the older i6 head cuz it has bigger valves that it would boost hp but i'm not sure at all i just thoght i would see if anyone new of this for sure cuz i have a older i6 right here with the old style head i guest it would not hurt to try it.
