Lost power in 1st....
I have a 1998 XLT 4x4 with the SOHC V6. Just awhile ago, I reversed out of my driveway, and put it in drive, and it kinda slipped. Didnt think anything of it until I noticed that I have lost power in first gear. I tried it w. OD off and it doesn't change anything. It has a little more power when I put it in first, but not anywhere near as much as it used to. I can floor it from a stop and it barely gets going. It had been slipping for awhile now from stop to first, took it to the dealer twice and they "couldnt replicate the problem". Any opinions on whats wrong? Thanks in advance.

You probably have the same problem in reverse. Likely you blew out the gasket for the low/reverse servo band. This is a known problem that usually first surfaces as a loss of low engine braking. This can be repaired without dropping the transmission, just removing the pan. There are two gaskets and if you are lucky it is the servo cover gasket. This can be replaced by just removing the 4 cover bolts. The other gasket is below that under the the seperator plate. The valve body must be removed to replace that one.
