As the new owner of a 94 F150 (I6, M5OD, 2wd, 109,500 miles) I'm trying to track down 2 noises.
1) sounds like running water or leaves in the wind. The sound seems to be coming from either the passenger firewall (heater core?) or the transmission. The harder you accelerate, the louder it is. Bearing in the trans headed south?
2) clicking noise from the front end. It seems to change sides when you turn, moving to the outside as the weight transfers. It will sometimes show up in while accelerating (straight line) in 4th or OD.
Other than that it's in great shape and I'm really glad to finally have another truck. Anyone who can live without one hasn't ever owned one!
The creaking noise is probably the fact that it may need new bushings. My 95 creaks real bad and I know that I need to replace them. As far as the other noise, well I think you are a better judge as far as that goes, I can't hear it, but I will go crawl under mine and nose around to see what it could be.
If I remember right, when my tranny was going out (5sp), it made a really high-pitched sound, and got louder in every gear. It turned out to be the bearings. You might also look at the condition of the gear teeth in the tranny if you replace your bearings. You might need new gears too.
This is a long shot but here I go. I think it is the heater core like you mentioned. That is the only thing that could be making the noise that I can think of. Why is it making the noise? You might have some sort of blockage in the core making it louder than normal.
Hope this helps.
