First, I moved this to the Large Truck forum, as you'll get more help here than the F150 forum.

Second, WELCOME to FTE!

There were no VIN's back then, vehicles were registered by their specific engine number that was also stamped on the hogshead.

This was a problem, because if the engine was changed, the numbers no longer matched, unless a Ford dealer installed a new engine and then stamped the original engine number on the new block.

FoMoCo dealers were instructed to do this, but some mechanics forgot or didn't want to bother.

VIN's were introduced in 1948 (trucks), register the entire vehicle.

99T is at least a one ton truck. There were also commercials (1/2 tons), 122" wheelbase 3/4 ton trucks.

You should ask further questions in the 1947 and older truck forum, where you'll get more help than this or any other forum.
