I know this has been beat to death . I have a 95 7.3 the head lights are sub par due to age. I am contemplating buying a style like this. They are the 3 piece just like stock. And adding the Heavy duty Harness. Does any one have any experience or pictures of this style on there truck? They look great in the ad picture. But I want to make sure the are not smoked head lights. Other ads the lights look a lot darker. I'm just wanting to make sure. This is my work truck and I do a lot of driving at night. Just getting tired of the crappy lights.
Well Crap I already ordered these!! Guess I just got too impatience. What is the major difference between the two? Its almost like the same style I ordered for my 6.0 truck. Expect these are a 3 piece.
Ah ok It should work much better then whats there now. I just put new bulbs in them about 2 months ago. I believe they where the factory brightness. I am thinking about getting some brighter bulbs for it. But when reading the packages on the brighter bulbs the service life of them goes way down the brighter you go. I have owned this truck since early 2009 and have only ever put 3 bulbs total in it. And nothing drives me up the wall more then getting in a vehicle to leave at night and the SOB's head light is burnt out! Are there any good recommendations?
The ones you linked to are NOT actually smoked. They are like factory 99-04 Mustang headlights where the lens and reflector are clear but all other surfaces inside the housing are colored black. This gives the look of smoked without reducing the light output. There are other sets out there that do have tinted lenses to achieve the smoked effect, and obviously those will cut down on light output.
What Redark is trying to describe are ones where the inner surfaces are not blacked out as I described above. There will be zero difference in light output blackened vs non blackened. It's just for looks.
Not sure but I think the Phillips X-Tra Vision (?) are well recommended. Don't waste your money on any bulb with blue glass. It actually cuts down light output, although it will "appear" brighter it actually is not. There has been plenty of discussion on this topic all around the web and that seems to be the general consensus. Here's some info: http://www.danielsternlighting.com/t...lbs/bulbs.html
I tossed my bulbs and went with LED drop-ins in aftermarket halogen housings like the ones you linked to. While halogen housings are not optimized for LED usage (less beam distance then you'll get with a halogen bulb), if adjusted right you won't blind other drivers unlike people who put HID capsules into housings that are meant for a halogen bulb and throw light all over the road and into oncoming traffic.
And if you do consider HID lighting, here's a great thread that shows you how to properly modify housings intended for halogen bulbs to accept a projector, which is required with HID's to properly form the beam. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...right-way.html
Oh yeah I know to stay away from the blue lights. Im not a fan of HID's every truck I see with them just blinds the crap out of everybody. The ones I have now are the EiKO Lighting 55W/65W the cheap ones from oreilly's for like 9.99 each.
But was thinking about going with Sylvania SilverStar (39.99) or the Sylvania XtraVision (29.99) Both of these are 2 packs.
Im not sure If anyone around here stocks the Phillips X-Tra Vision. Next time I go to autozone or Napa i will have to look. Becuase I know oreilly's doesn't have them
I don't know if that was the exact brand and/or name of the bulb but I remember when I was researching it there was one that came out on top in a controlled study. Perhaps others on here can lend a hand in choosing a good non-gimmicky bulb, and/or you could do some Googling.
Yes HID's blind the crap out of everybody when they are not used with a projector. Most people either don't know or don't care enough to do their homework and they just go and put HID's in the factory lamp housings. It looks brighter to them and that's all they care about, not considering that their beam pattern sucks. LOL.
I have been doing some googling on blubs. Just so much info to sort though. I think I will have to go with something a little bit brighter then stock with less service life then stock. But not the super bright with a extremely short life. I will diffidently post what I go with.
Another reason I don't like HIDs is if they ever burn out. You will have a very hard time picking one up from the auto parts store in BFE. With stock 9007 bulbs you can get them just about anywhere. Heck most gas stations even carry them.
I like that bumper too!! Its a cattle men. My only complaint is its really heavy and hangs out too far. It puts lots of stress on the flimsy bumper mounts. My has cracked severely before To the point where you could grab the top bar on the bumper and shake it in and out about 5 to 6 in's. Its from getting pulled down the pipeline ROW's. But I have rewelded and did some reinforcing on them so it shouldn't happen again. At lest I hope
Once you put a direct power wiring harness on your truck, you will be amazed at how much brighter the headlights, even with crappy bulbs, will be. Our trucks don't have very big wiring for the lighting, causing the lights to dimmer than they could be.
This harness ain't cheap but it gets rave reviews;
The front page of their website shows a Dodge Pickup with their harness. That jazzed my friend to put a harness on his '66 'Stang. They are super bright, just like the pic of the Dodge! When I order my new housings, I'm getting a harness for my truck. BTW, I'm going with factory Ford buckets. Seems both of mine were replaced with aftermarket lookalikes at some time and they are worse than yours.

Reason: typo errors.

Oh yeah I remember whenever I bought a LMC harness for my 75 f250. I got it all hooked up and was like holy crap!!! The halogen bulbs where so much brighter. The best part apart from the brightness upgrade is that the high beams wouldn't just randomly shut off any more!
I will never forget the first time it happened to me. I was about 17 (27 now) driving home from the lake at night. And Bame lights out no low beams or high. Pulled over and called the old man and he told me oh that happens some times with the high beams on. Just let it cool and they will come back on. Sat for a few mins turned lights back on and left them on low the rest of the way home. About a week later I told dad lets fix it. We put a new dimmer and headlight switches in. It helped the shutting off problem a little bit. But it fully didn't quit till I installed the harness.

I've never had that happen to me but have heard about this happening to other Ford owners. Apparently the headlight switches have an internal thermal circuit breaker. Wiring gets a bit old and current draw goes up, then you get that.
Yea it scared the crap out of me. I hadn't had my license very long at that point so I was pretty green at driving. I didnt drive that 75 f250 at night for the next mouth or so after that lol. I still have that truck. I did a bunch of work to it about 2 years ago. But thats a whole other topic.
