I haven't posted in a while, but the day finally came to bring Myrtle home. I couldn't be prouder! She's come a LONG way. 3 years ago she was chained to a tractor headed for the scrap yard. Today people waved and yelled "nice truck" as we drove by. I'm not sure you could smack the smile off my face.
Am I correct in thinking that you've painted the grille shell to match the body? I really like the lack of contrast between body and grille shell and may well follow your fine example.
The roll pan is also very cool and I'd love to hear and see more about how this was done.

Yes sir. My grille shell was crappy looking. Just couldn't get it to polish out enough to my liking. So facing investing $600 in a new one, we shot it white just to see how it'd look. Originally we also sprayed the inserts to match and it was a little too much white. I bought some new inserts from Dennis Carpenter and think that really set it off. I'm pretty happy.
The roll pan I purchased from NPD. It's actually a bolt in thing, but due to a little accident with the bed and my engine hoist, had to do some other rear end patching so we incorporated the roll pan directly into the bed side. turned out real slick. Pictures don't do that justice.
Thanks meangreen92. The interior was fun. That seat came out of a '94 (if my memory serves me) then I dyed the door panels to match and covered the headliner in fabric to match.
Very nice. Love the gauge cluster. How did you deal with filling all the holes from the chrome removal?
Thank you. I got the faces from whitegauges.net 1973-1979 Ford Truck 100 Mph White Face Gauges - Whitegauges.net
The smaller holes, I just welded them up. The larger holes, I made a little round patch and welded it in. If you look real close you can still see where they were. Next pass (many many years down the road) I'll spend a little more time smoothing those patches out.
Here's some pics of the gauge cluster.
It's a freshly recovered seat out of a '94 (I think). Bought it off a guy from craigslist. Apparently he sells them at the Food Lion Autofair. He pulls good donor seats from the JY, recovers them and sells them. That's his gig. I was happy to pay him for his trouble and keep me from doing it. All I had to do was salvage my old brackets (with some cleaning and paint of course) and slap it right in. Upholstery didn't interest me at all.
I am a member, but really haven't joined in on anything local. That's my bad. Need to get more active.
