To be honest, this is a major annoyance to me. Basically, once the autolamp timer "times out" and shuts the headlights off, the radio comes on in a dark truck with a blindingly white bright screen. I mean, it illuminates the whole interior of the truck! I have no idea why Ford couldn't have tapped the radio into the headlamp darkness sensor on top of the dash; or included some logic that says "headlights were on; leave radio screen in night mode until next restart" or something like that. I realize you could use night mode full time, but it is not as good during the day.
**Tip: switch the parking lights on at night. The screen will dim right down. Fumbling for the settings in the menu is a pain.
Even when it's off, it's still actually on. Same amount of energy is being used. Just like having your TV displaying black. I doubt it's OLED which would mean pixels displaying black would actually be off. In LED, a black pixel or a very light blue pixel would require the same amount of energy so its not really "off" - very annoying.
