Looking to add a small powered subwoofer in the center console. Not an audiophile by any means, just looking to add a little extra bass. I am retaining the factory head unit and have no plans to replace it. Used to have an 05' Jeep Wrangler with a small, I think 6", subwoofer in the center console. Looking to do something similar with the Ex. I don't need all the storage in the center console as its just a magnet for crap to me.
I know JL Audio has the Stealthbox but at $700 that ain't happening. Wondering about finding the subwoofer from the Jeep mentioned above but open to ideas. Can build a small box if needed as well.
Curious if anyone has done something similar and if tapping into wires that run in the doorsills in the easiest way to hook something up.
For many years I had a Bazooka tube mounted in the third row footwell. I tapped the wires under the sillplates. I took it out last year as I was having issues with whine and noise. (I don't know if the noises were tied to an iPod adapter I installed for the factory radio)
With the factory radio, there's no way to get a preamp out signal, so I'd agree that the wiring in the sillplates are your best bet.
You`ll need a pre amp output adapter. it brings speaker level wattage down to preamp level. then you`ll need a small amplifier and a small subwoofer. this will work with the stock stereo, but it takes a little work.
