Cab ceiling job
The '68 half-ton I bought a couple of months ago had no ceiling in it although the frame pieces were there, in place.
Cab ceiling is only a hard cardboard and does have a 'form' to it at the ends, the frames hold it up in place and there are matching factory holes in both the cardboard and the steel 'rafter' across, up near the center.
Lucky a junked truck had a ceiling but mice had made two smaller holes and a bad area above at the front center, I took it down, laid it on a big table in the shop. Used pallet cardboard, thinner hard material to fix it, cut and glued three layers on top to repair the damage and make it stiff again.
This done we bought a yard of a velvet like cloth, used spray adhesive to glue that on the underside, giving a really nice appearance while also helping soak up noise, also hiding the now repaired mice holes.
Now the install: I knew that that center hole was the key, get that screw and cup washer in and it would be in place factory perfect. I cut a thinner stick of wood 3 feet long, drilled a 3/16 hole in the center as a thing to support the ceiling on the underside, it's big.
I cut the head off a two inch #8 sheet metal screw, welded a length of mechanic's wire to that, hand screwed that into the center hole above. We sat in the seat, fed the wire thru' the ceiling center hole, then thru' the stick, then pushed the whole works up into place 'till it was in place over the screw, clipped a small vise-grip on to hold it up in place, installed the painted frame pieces, then removed the screw & wire, put a new oval head screw & chrome cup washer in it's place, we were finished.
Looks like a million I says to the wife, looks like a class job. ....
