I'm sure this has been addressed on this site before but since I'm new I'll ask! I have owned a '75 F250 highboy since new and have recently purchased a "finished" '77 highboy.
Both trucks have the problem of the gauges going crazy! All four gauges (Fuel, temp, oil and alt) will peg to the right and stay that way for awhile then they'll return to normal. I replaced the gauge regulator on the back of the cluster on the '75 years ago but I don't remember it helping.
Does anybody have a fix for this and the other problems that these trucks have had with gauges and dash lights?
You are correct, the question has been addressed. Please try the search function. The repair of these gages has been covered in great detail in the past.
Start by removing the cluster and check the printed circuit (yes, Remove it from the cluster), I have a feeling that it is grounding out somewhere.
Do a really good cleaning with Electrical cleaner or Alcohol.
Check all the connections & re-assemble it.
Look especially at the 18 pin connector area.
