cutting out on acceleration
My '97 F150 4.6 V8 just desided today that it wanted to cutout on me while my RPMs were up. As long as they don't get above 2,500 it seems to be fine. I was going up hill and it started to do this today then the check engine light came on flashed a few times then went soild. What on earth could make it do this all of the sudden? Could it be an O2 sensor, plugged fuel cleaned, fuel pump? It acts like it's not getting gas then it does then it doesn't again. Could someone help me so I don't have to pay an arm and leg to find out that something just needs to be cleaned? (Cleaned air filter already).
First of all "Welcome" to FTE from Canyon Lake, Texas! Second, go by your local "AutoZone" or parts store and see if they will check for "Error Codes" on your truck's computer. That can save you a lot of "pain" in trouble shooting the problem. You may have hit it with the "fuel filter", but if the "check engine light" came on, it should have set an error code. Good luck!
Thanks guys, I took it and had the codes ran. It turned out to be a plugged fuel filter which in turn fouled my plugs so a tune up is all it needed. At least it was nothing major.
