What are the best products to buy to rebuild my 428. Has anyone had good or bad experience's with a certain brand? My local parts store sold me a gasket set made by Detroit Gasket, and I think that the look kinda cheap. The rear main cap side seals didn't even have the little steel rods that you push in.
Also, I have a new cam, oil pump, timing chain set and performer 390 intake that I bought for my 390 {but I found It had a cracked block}. This can all be used in my 428 right ? Are there any 390 parts that won't fit on a 428?
I use Fel-Pro RACE (remainder to assemble a complete engine) gaskets sets. With the exception of those gaskets specified by Edelbrock for the intake and heads.
I'de reccomend the copper exhaust gaskets with headers or those reccomended by your header manufacturer. My FPA headers came with gaskets.
All of your 390 parts will work on the 428. The blocks pretty much indentical with the exception of the rotating assembly. A 428 crank is externally balanced. You will need to have it balanced or use a 428 flex-plate/flywheel.
I have the 428 auto tranny flywheel, but the ring gear teeth are wore pretty bad, can I just get a new ring gear and have it welded on my flywheel? Am I supposed to use special gaskets with the Edelbrock intake?
